Hello, I’m Stephen Murphy, resident ghost of the Haunted Series. I’ve been tasked by Alexie Aaron to interview some of the characters who appear with me in the series. Alexie wants an unbiased look into the inner workings of these novels. I felt that I could be the most transparent (pun intended) and offered my services.
If you haven’t read The Return yet, I suggest stopping here until you do so.
SM: I’d like to start by asking Mia Cooper Martin a few questions. Mia is one of the main characters and sometimes referred to as Little Bird.
Mia: Which I hate.
SM: Is it because Angelo Michaels gave you the nickname?
Mia: That’s very perceptive, Murph.
SM: Are you grinding your teeth?
Mia: Yes.
SM: Why would the mere mention of Little Bird make you grind your teeth?
Mia: Once upon a time, my aunt sold me to Angelo to be forever bound to the Brotherhood of the Wing. I managed to be rescued from this fate only to find myself saddled with a set of angel-like wings. I was just starting to get used to them when they were dramatically removed by an archangel.
SM: How was life without wings?
Mia: Slower. I found myself dependent on other beings for transportation. In a conflict, I am at a disadvantage being grounded. I’m like 5’2” and everyone except Brian is taller than me.
SM: Still, you were very effective in a fight.
Mia: Thank you, Murph. I was holding my own - that was until I was faced with trying to defend myself and my children at that library from hell.
SM: I wasn’t there. What happened?
Mia: Brian happened. No, I can’t blame him. He simply smarted off to a ghost, and she took offense and started tossing books at us. I didn’t have anything but salt with me. It never occurred to me I should be taking my sword and shield to the library.
SM: She tossed a few books?
Mia: It started off with a few, and then she practically emptied the shelves. I searched for a weapon and found an iron spike and was trying to bring it to me by telekinesis. I was buried by the time Mike got to me. That’s all I remember about the library. If I had my wings, I could have formed a protective shell around us until help arrived.
SM: So, you requested a set of wings?
Mia: No, I still didn’t want wings but was conned into having them. But not just wings, very special wings. Wings that got me into further trouble and got the giver of the wings kicked out of the Brotherhood of the Wing.
SM: Very unsporting of them.
Mia: You could say that.
SM: I just did. So that covers why you hate the nickname Little Bird. Let’s take a step back and talk about family. Your aunt Beverly for example.
Mia: She’s not my blood relative. She’s adopted, but I do consider her daughter Sabine my cousin. We are connected in a much stronger way. She and I share the ability of being sensitives and having the knowhow to OOB.
SM: You may want to explain OOB.
Mia: It stands for out of body, you know, bilocation. I say OOB because it suits the 13-year-old inside of me to say things like: before out of body is BOOB. Or those that bilocate are OOBers.
SM: Those who are great at it are, perhaps, GOOBers?”
Mia: (Giggling) You’ve got the idea. Anyway, Sabine is very important but much more sensitive than I am. She gets the bad stomach when evil is around, much like Mike.
SM: Sabine is a bit drifty.
Mia: She’s family. You can’t pick your family. You should know that by now.
SM: I have no family.
Mia: You have Kevin, your father. He’s family.
SM: I have no family alive.
Mia: Liar, the Callens are your family. Patrick and Mason Callen are your distant cousins on your father’s mother’s side.
SM: You get to have educated folks for your family. I get the Callens. Seems like Alexie likes you more.
Mia: Education isn’t everything. Don’t sell the Callens short. They are street smart and will always have your back.
SM: Time to change the subject. We’ve discussed your wings, Sabine, and my relatives. Anything else the readers may want to know about you before book 22 Risen is released?
Mia: I’m just your paranormal housewife from northern Illinois. I have a very forgiving husband, Ted, two growing boys, Brian and Varden, and a spectacular adopted son, Dieter. I’m employed as a paranormal investigator but subcontract out to Heaven occasionally as a healer. I know my way around a sword and work hard on defending the human race from those who would want to take advantage or destroy it. I am also blessed with the best partner to fight the fight with.
SM: And that is?
Mia: Stephen Murphy.
I thought this was a great place to end this interview. Look for more interviews in the future here on alexieaaron.com. Remember to keep your wits and your axe sharp!
