Wednesday, there were a lot of firsts. One, the denizens of Ravens’ Rook traveled two hours in the car, and no one ended up on the side of the road, thinking things over. The Webguy came close. Why were we traveling? I was invited to the Surrey Township Public Library in Farwell, Michigan, by Jean Gaskill. Which brings up another first, this was my first public appearance to speak about the “Haunted Series.”

Happy Friday! It’s my turn to put together some book recommendations. Fortunately for me, I have a few readers who are helping me out. Before I started writing full-time, I was a voracious reader, but these days, my time is spent writing, and alas, the books I have yet to read are stacking up! You see, I’m very careful about not picking up ideas (consciously or subconsciously) from other writers so I avoid reading in my genre. I do read, but I keep to areas that don’t cross over into the paranormal world.

PEEPs Spotlight - Janice Ivy

Jan and I have been friends since we reacquainted ourselves on the now defunct Slush Pile Reader. I had previously seen her on the forums of HarperCollin’s Authonomy. She handled the nice and not-so-nice authors with wit and compassion. This impressed me. I think that she and I gelled over our appreciation for mystery stories with dominant, flawed heroines and our love of writer’s tags. Jan is the first person who mentioned that I should publish my work as ebooks on Amazon so that others could read them - she had already entered that area and had done quite well. I thought that if she was brave enough to face the public, then I better pull it together and follow in her footsteps. Starting out on your own is scary, but when you have a supportive friend like Jan, it’s not too bad.
Jan, like me, is a writer of multiple genres. I thought it might be interesting to ask her a few questions so that all of us could get to know her better.
