Here we are in the dog days of summer, already! I thought I better take the time to update you on the upcoming books. Yes, books, plural!
I just finished the first draft of book 28, but that’s another story. Moving on…
Book 27 Crossroads is in editing and coming along fine. It’s a long book so the Red Pen is working hard. When you edit a book in a long running series, there is more involved than just looking at grammar. The Red Pen has to make sure I’ve not gone off campus on plot and that I’ve stayed consistent with my characters. There are a lot of them in this book. Don’t be shy if you’re not quite sure who’s who. Look at the glossary which I include in the back of the eBook. Just because all these characters live in my head, I don’t expect you to remember them all.
Why so many characters? I write in the world of the Haunted Series. Just like the world you live in, there are more than a dozen people you interact with every day. I like to revisit many of the characters, just like you may visit old friends.
Crossroads has old PEEPs-style investigations along with family life, Martin style. Mia faces new challenges the least of which are her infant twins, and the chaos visiting family brings. I’m excited to get this one to you, and the Red Pen is tired of having me camping outside her door.
Meanwhile, I’ve continued the Haunted Series by writing book 28, Sticks and Stones. Yesterday, I finished the first draft, and I emerged from my office to find most of the summer gone! Children are heading back to school, and soon my community will shrink in size with the summer visitors heading back down south.
After I finish my corrections, I’m headed out to wander around and absorb the real world. But first I have to step over Cid Garrett who is camped out on my doorstep…
Enjoy!
