It’s that time of the year when the craving for popcorn and scary movies comes over me. I love a good scare, don’t you? I’m not into gore fests. I get my thrills from heart-stopping suspense and those wonderful jump-out-of-the-dark moments. Here at Bliss Cottage, we are hard at work putting the finishing touches on The Long Game, so trips to the theater aren’t on the menu. Fortunately for us, there is Netflix.
I’ve put together our top five list of movies you can see on Netflix right now. I’m sure you can rent them or see them for free on other channels, but as the remote control confuses this PEEPs-soaked brain, I’ll just keep my list easy.
Top Five Scary Movies on Netflix
Number Five is an oldie, but a great movie. The Others takes you into the lives of a family seemingly haunted by others in their home. The twist in this classic makes a second and third watching mandatory. I love to see what I missed the first time.
Number Four, The Woman in Black 2. Admittedly, I was wary of watching this sequel. What could they do differently enough to keep my interest without spoiling the foundations The Woman in Black had laid. As with the first movie, I watched most of it with a splayed hand in front of my face. Whoa.
Number Three, Stonehearst Asylum. This is more of a dark twisted mystery, but the suspense qualifies it for my scary movie list. Lots of star power in this movie, and it wasn’t wasted.
Number Two, Housebound is a quirky black comedy with plenty of scares. I was yelling at the screen, don’t don’t don’t! They did. I almost overlooked this gem. I think it was the Red Pen who found it for me. Loved it.
Number One, The Babadook. The Beta Reader and the Red Pen watched this one, caught in a state of anguished suspense the whole time. It will freak you out, but it also provokes a lot of conversation.
Please leave your own top five list. If the movies are gory, list them as such so I don’t lose my popcorn.
