Rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrough drafts. First drafts are these marvelous things full of excitement, plot lines, typos, and What the fuzzy bunnies? I sat today and reread a few lines and said, “Huh.” I tried to think what I was trying to get across, “Nope.” Took it in context, “Um, no.” Then I deleted them. What was I thinking? Only Murphy knows.
The Long Game is the 19th full length novel of the Haunted Series. You would think that I would have this process down, being - like my friend Margaret called me - “a machine.” Alas, no. I’m supposed to be correcting my errors, but I catch myself reading the story. After a few chapters, I realize it and go back to my personal editing. I suppose it’s a good sign.
In this book, I am going to open up the vault and tell you the as yet untold truth about Mia. Well, a character called Shivers is going to do it for me. He is going to tell her things that will not only rock her world but explain her past behavior. This book is going to free her, take her to Hell, and maybe resolve the problem of her screaming in graveyards. Along the way, the PEEPs are going to investigate mischief at the Big Bear Lake Cemetery. Also, Sheriff Ryan and Father Santos revisit the beginning of their friendship and take Mia and Murphy with them. You’ll never guess where they met? Nope. Try again. Nope.
The long story arc is sliding into place nicely. Feathers are going to fly.
Okay enough hints. The Red Pen is going to tattoo “NO SPOILERS” across my forehead. It would be better on the back of my hand. I don’t look in the mirror when I’m typing. Not yet anyway.
Back to work for me. I’ll keep you updated on the progress. Meanwhile, I can’t wait to see what Quentin dropped off on Mia’s porch…
