Here I am as promised with pictures of my office. I admit I will either be fussing around with book placement in the future, or I’ll just learn where I put things and move on. Yes, there is a bit of a madness to how I have the books on the shelves. Some are alphabetical, some are in collections, and others (from recently unearthed boxes) just fit.
A brief tour… My office is on the main floor of Ravens’ Rook at the back of the house. I have windows overlooking the back garden which faces north, and I have an eastern window that gives me morning light filtered by the giant oaks and pine trees.
I enter the office through a 400lb barndoor. I can completely close off my office when needed. My desk sets in the middle of the room. I don’t like having my back to the door. Too many scary things can come up behind me when I’m concentrating.
Our carpenter/artist Pat McGrew built deep bookcases over cabinets large enough to hold all my files, printers, and other treasures. There are bookshelves and cabinets on three of the four walls. A window seat with underneath storage was built between two bookcases.
There is room for just about everything I own. I have original manuscripts and book proofs tucked away. The shelves hold favorite books, mementos, photographs, and props used in book covers. Finally, I have my Castle poster signed by Nathan Fillion and a painting of my most favorite Tarot card on the wall. When I close off the door, Murphy’s axe reminds me of why this office is here in the first place. It’s more than a place for me to write, it’s a portal to the world of the “Haunted Series.”
UPDATE!
